What a Difference a Week Makes

Here’s what I was doing just seven days ago. A mini concert for the Japanese TV network WOWOW

Here’s what I was doing just seven days ago. We were doing a live mini-concert for the Japanese TV network WOWOW. It was great. For a few hours I didn’t have a care in the world. When I’m working, it’s like that.

When I returned to my other life, that of a possibly-recovering cancer patient, I tried to keep the same positive and carefree mind-set but it’s not easy. I’d recently had more cancer tests and the results have not come back yet. During these waiting periods it’s hard to remain carefree.

By the end of a busy week I’d still not gotten the results and the anxiety started to rear its ugly head. Finally, I tweeted my feelings globally and like magic, relief started coming - one positive message after the next. There was a barrage of uplifting messages from the twitterverse (thanks family), then Anita Baker, Jackson Browne, Kathy Sledge, Chris Cornell, and a number of colleagues from my work life reached out to me.

When I finally got myself back together and shook off the Doubting Doris attitude things got even better. I received an email from another musician-superstar saying they were coming to introduce me at my book-signing at Barnes & Noble. For a few hours I don’t have a care in the world. What A Difference a Week Makes.
